Council replies…. finally

Today, I got a reply from the coucil about my ideas for a Greener Bournemouth busking pitch to raise money for environmental causes. Here is the email i sent them originally:

Good Afternoon,

My name is Tom Wood and i’m a final year student at the Arts Institute
Bournemouth, studying Interactive Media. My final project is called
Greener Bournemouth, and basically I’m trying to create a community of
people in Bournemouth who want to make a difference and “green up” the
town.  I am doing this through a mix of online and events-driven
initiatives, with a blog, website, twitter feed and facebook group
gaining momentum.  One of the events we have been talking about is an
acoustic concert which would be carbon-neutral.  This would ideally be
in Bournemouth Center, and be based around 2 or 3 busking pitches.  I
have loads of artists willing to get involved, as is the Arts
Institute Students Union, but no event to speak of so far. How would I
go about getting a license to set up a couple of pitches for a day in
the square or gardens? I’m planning on all proceeds that we make to go
towards environmental organisations.

Please let me know if this would be possible!

Thanks!

It’s been a couple of weeks since I sent that out (originally sent on the 29th of April), but finally I get a reply today, saying…

Hi Tom,
I issue Buskers licences etc for which there is usually a charge. In the circumstances I would be willing to provide a licence for the day FOC (on the understanding that the collection went to some ‘green activity’ – can I suggest Bournemouth in bloom?).

The buskers pitches are shown in the maps attached, and I regret that they are not in the Gardens as these have protective covenants on the things that can go on there.

If this gains momentum and you want to proceed can I suggest that you come back to me so we can discuss in depth. Any chance of doing the 17th in the Square which is when we have the big green bus on site?

Roger

Firstly, note that the 17th that they recommend is the 17th May, 5 days time!  I’ve been getting strong support for this kinda event, but 5 days isn’t a lot of time to organise it.  It would be great to have the event, though.  Especially as it would be taking place at the same time as another green event, the Big Green Bus (see post on the Big Green Fortnight for more info).

The maps of the pitches available can be found HERE, HERE and HERE.  These are in PDF format.

Find the application for a busking license HERE, and the terms and conditions for busking in Bournemouth HERE.  These are in .doc (word) format.

I’ll be talking about this with Chloe Cooper, who is on Arts and Events Management about if the event is even possible tomorrow, will get back to you then!
